Air Jamaica and Caribbean Airlines Transition
5/7/2010
On May 1, 2010 Air Jamaica and Caribbean Airlines began the journey towards one Caribbean airline.
For more than four decades Air Jamaica has been a celebrated icon to both nationals and visitors. Moving forward we will take the very best of the airline’s heritage to create a strong airline serving the Caribbean.
The transition period may take up to 12 months and during this time, everyone at Air Jamaica will do all that is possible to deliver the signature travel experience our loyal passengers have come to know and love. This confidence in Air Jamaica remains one of our most important assets and we are committed to honouring that trust.
The Transition Arrangement
- Caribbean Airlines has assumed full financial responsibility for Air Jamaica.
- The Government of Jamaica has transferred Air Jamaica’s routes to Caribbean Airlines for a 16% ownership in Caribbean Airlines.
- Caribbean Airlines has retained approximately 1000 employees for the transition period.
Reservations and Tickets Honored
All reservations made and tickets purchased will be honored. We will continue to use the “JM” code, our current regulatory authorizations, the current fleet of aircraft, and maintain many of our current employees. So, you can continue to book Air Jamaica with confidence knowing that the usual processes are still in place.
Frequent Flyer Benefits
Members of our 7th Heaven Rewards Frequent Flyer program will continue to earn and redeem rewards with no change and all of our partner arrangements remain in place. You will also redeem your reward miles as you have done in the past, for round-trip airline tickets, and Lovebird Executive Class Upgrades.
Schedule
Air Jamaica still offers the most flights between Jamaica and Fort Lauderdale, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Toronto as our spring schedule is now in effect with 161 weekly flights. The big news for summer is the return of our famed Nitebird flights between Kingston and New York, starting June 1, 2010.
Cargo Services Continue
Air Jamaica continues to have the most cargo capacity, with service between Jamaica and all of our destinations. We will also continue our freighter service between Miami and Kingston, three times each week.
Setting Course for the Future
Both of us have been in the airline industry for many years. From where we stand, there are not many airlines that have the kind of vibrant passenger commitment that Air Jamaica boasts. We will match that loyalty with an efficient, on-time operation, great fares, destinations that interest you, and of course service that shines, making you know every step of the way that we want you on board.
