Unaccompanied Minors

Bookings for unaccompanied minors must be made thru Air Jamaica Reservations

Air Jamaica takes special care of children who are traveling alone.

A child is considered an Unaccompanied Minor if he/she is 5 years of age but under 15 years and is not accompanied in the same cabin by a passenger who is 15 years of age or older. Air Jamaica will not accept an Unaccompanied Minor under the age of 2 years.

On request, young passengers 15 –17 years old may be included in this service.

An Air Jamaica Care Agent must accompany an Unaccompanied Minor who is between the ages of 2 and 5 years.

Service Charge

A service charge is applicable for each Unaccompanied Minor in addition to the applicable airfare.
 

One service charge will be assessed for immediate family members that are booked together, to a maximum of 3 children on the same passenger name record. 
 

The Unaccompanied Minor service charge applies in each direction and is applicable from when the flight begins to the final destination. 
Unused service fee is refundable without cancellation penalty.

Reservations

Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to departure.

Reservations for children traveling unaccompanied must be made through our Reservations Department or your travel agent

The child must hold confirmed reservations. A return ticket is needed for an Unaccompanied Minor who is not a citizen or resident of the country to which he/she is traveling.

Connections are only allowed on certain Air Jamaica’s code share partner’s flights (Check with our Reservations Department).


The following information must be provided at reservations:
 

  • The full name, address and telephone number of the parent or guardian who will accompany the child to the airport.
  • The full name, address and telephone number of the parent or guardian who is designated to pick up the child at the final destination.

At the airport

The parent or guardian whose name was given at the time reservations were made must accompany the child to the airport.
 

Arrive 30 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. See Check-in information for required arrival times.
The required customs and immigration forms must be completed before Air Jamaica takes custody of the child.
An Air Jamaica Care Agent will take delivery of the child in the check-in area, if applicable.

Please note:

  • Children may not carry alcoholic beverages
  • Each child is allowed one carry-on bag
  • This bag should be of a size and weight that the child can comfortably manage
  • Dutiable items should not be given to a child
  • Children under the age of 15 may not be seated in an exit row.

Final destination

 

At the final destination the Unaccompanied Minor will only be released to the person named on the form.

  • The guardian whose name was given at reservations must be present at the airport and have acceptable photo identification

The guardian must sign the relevant forms before the child is released in his/her care.

MINORS TRAVELING TO CURACAO (18 years and under)

  • Immigration regulation in Curacao with reference to minors (18 years and under) traveling unaccompanied or without their parents or legal guardians must have in their possession a signed letter from the  parent along with a copied identification card with a signature to authenticate the signed letter, permitting travel.
  • The persons on the receiving end must also have a copy of the parents’ permission and must inform immigration prior to the minors’ arrival that they will be responsible for their care while on the island.
  • If these criteria are not met then the minor will be refused entry and returned on the flight.
